Empowering Families, Nurturing Futures

In spring 1997, Sue Anderson presented her vision to Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church to support abortion-minded women in St. Joseph, Missouri. With the church’s financial backing, Sue became the first director, and by November 1998, the “Heartbeat” ministry opened in the church basement, beginning its mission to serve women in crisis.

Growth Into a Medical Clinic

After eight years of growth, the dream of becoming a medical clinic was realized. In March 2006, Heartbeat became the St. Joseph Pregnancy Resource Clinic, incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and opened at its current location. Today, we are proud to serve as the Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC)—continuing to provide life-affirming care and support for women and families in need.

Expanding Services, Providing Support

PRC strives to be a refuge and resource for all women facing unplanned pregnancies. We offer crisis pregnancy clinic appointments, prenatal and parenting classes, maternity clothing giveaways, and post-abortion support groups. Understanding the challenges faced by women who have experienced an abortion, PRC provides confidential support to help them find healing.

With a deep respect for all human life, we also coordinate grief support groups for mothers who have experienced miscarriage or infant loss, walking alongside them in their journey.

Looking Ahead

Our mission continues to grow! In 2019, PRC expanded into Cameron, Missouri, offering crisis pregnancy clinic appointments with plans to establish more services in that community.

Grounded in the hope of Jesus Christ, PRC remains committed to empowering families and nurturing futures—offering compassionate care, essential resources, and life-affirming support to every woman who walks through our doors.
